Trudy Update: The Remodel

It’s been a bit (thanks to Hurricane Irma) since the first Trudy update and we’ve come a long way! We quickly transitioned from just renovating the bathroom to gutting the entire camper and starting fresh. Trudy is going to have a whole new look!

We had a lot to do with the demo work and since there isn’t much skill necessary to tear panels and insulation off the walls Kaitlin and I got right to work.

We ripped everything out.

After that was finished we sat on the sidelines for a couple days..aka the adirondack chairs in the backyard with beers in hand, but started to get antsy and wanted to be more involved in Trudy’s makeover. However, we didn’t want to be in Jeremy’s way since we had no clue what we were doing. But he happily put us right to work...eventually.

Tuesday was an exciting day. The electricians and the plumber came over at the same time and my friend Cheryl and her husband Charlie, who is, conveniently, a mechanic, stopped by to check out the camper too. It was a party. It’s pretty entertaining listening to the guy’s conversations about how to tackle all the obstacles that Trudy presents.

We kept hearing concerns about not having enough hot water or being able to blow dry our hair and so we nipped that in the bud real quick. We assured them that they were definitely over-estimating the amount of time we were going to put into our looks on this trip.

Charlie began helping Jeremy and ended up staying till the sun went down. They became quite the duo and kept us laughing all day. At the end of the day as Jeremy sipped Sailor Jerry from his big gulp he said, “Man, I didn’t know I was going to have help today I could’ve put the flooring down!” Kaitlin said, “We’ve been sitting here all week!”

The next day, Jeremy let Kaitlin use a power tool and she almost chopped her finger off. We now call it the finger cutter. I still don’t know what it’s really called.

Since then we have been working everyday on Trudy and Jeremy has taught us all kinds of things. It has been a blast and we’ve gotten pretty confident in our skills to the point that we have decided to start our own business renovating campers. Not really. But the thought did cross our minds.

It is almost to the fun part, picking out colors, painting, and giving Trudy the best makeover a girl could ask for!
