The Trudy Project

Last September, my friend Kaitlin came to visit from Hawaii to Florida for an epic road trip to Tennessee. I had never heard of the HGTV show Tiny Houses until we are driving up I-10 passing a dolled-up Airstream  and Kaitlin filled me on what I had been missing. It sparked an interested new plan for a grand new adventure. So, after two weeks roaming around Tennessee, I put Kaitlin on a plane back to Maui with a plan to save our pennies, buy a camper, and travel the United States.

There have been nothing short of dozens of miracles that have happened to get this camper to my overgrown yard with an extension cord just barely long enough to plug up the lights but that is a story for the finale of Trudy's renovations.

Fast forward 10 months, I've picked Kaitlin up from the airport once again and Trudy, our 1968 Winnebago Travel Trailer sits in my back yard.

I think I am a pretty handy gal, I have a tool kit and a drill (that I may or may not have lost the drill bit to) and I'm amazing at demo, but it didn't take long for Kaitlin and I to realize we needed a professional to handle some of this remodel.

We called a friend who called a friend and a total babe of a contractor showed up to take a look at Trudy. He thought he was just coming to give us advice but little did he know we charmed him into actually working on her. He told us to gut it and call him and he would come back.

We called him 3 hours later.

When we set our minds to something we are serious. So he showed back up and took us to Home Depot, took out the cabinets we thought we were keeping because he didn't like them and told us to get out of his way and not be mad at him when we come back.

Now, she sits in the back yard completely empty and we are beyond stoked. We even drew out some pretty pictures, picked out fabric, picked our flooring and toilet.

The plumbers from Hajoca Plumbing Corporation are coming this week with a gorgeous Luxart shower, kitchen sink, and faucets that took us 3 days to pick out.

They said demo and rebuilding would be the hardest part but Kaitlin and I spent over an hour in Home Depot before we called in help and we left with an empty cart and over 10 paint swatches that are all completely different.

The amazing electricians from Bright Future Electric are coming on Tuesday so I can finally roll up my sad little extension cord and take down our solar lantern that did pretty much nothing to light up the dark camper and she will be ready to be put back together!

We are beyond excited for this next adventure and we can't wait to take you all with us. We will post Trudy updates as often as we can! You can follow along on our remodel adventures here on this epic blog, my Facebook page, and following #TheTrudyProject on Instagram.

We also cannot wait to introduce you to each of our sponsors one at a time!
