This is not real life

When I travel I am almost always taking the cheapest flights around. The flights where you have to run for a seat and are hoping they don’t charge you five dollars for a bag of peanuts. But when you travel with Daddy Jay, it is like traveling with the most humble President of the United States—first class all the way.

We had a three-hour lay over in Detroit before making the long haul over the puddle to Seoul, Korea. We walked off the plane almost directly into a tall, semi-awkward man named Jason holding an iPad with “JAY GARNER” typed in white. Daddy Jay took one look at the iPad and says “Hey there, I’m Jay Garner, what can I do for you.” Jason was a little confused because my grandfather had just stolen the question he had been waiting to ask us. “We have the Porsche waiting for you outside, would you like to go to the Crown Lounge or the gate?”

“Hey now, The Lounge my good man, I’m going to get me a scotch.” Daddy Jay shot him the finger guns then gave us a wink, “Have you ever gotten to drive on a runway in a Porsche?” He asked my dad and me who both seemed to have forgotten how to speak. “Me either! Britty, you get shotgun.”

We didn’t go over 20mph but we were riding along side planes, cutting through the airport over tarmacs and passed baggage cars straight to the front door of the Delta Crown Lounge.

Three hours, some scotch and a couple glasses of wine later, the three of us were ready to board plane. Seat 75K. That can’t be right, 75 would be towards the back-- or in this case, on the second floor of the Boeing 747 with a seat the size of a small boat. I have flown first class before, but nothing like this. Meg, the flight attendant, introduced herself and handed me a glass of champagne. We were given a three-course meal complete with a dessert cart before they shut the lights off and the endless list of free movies began.

Upon arrival in Seoul we were shuffled into a cab with Mr. Chan, the best and nicest driver in Korea according to the laminated card he carried in his visor, who drove us to the Ritz Carlton in Downtown Seoul. And yes, the toilet seats are heated. Goodnight, and get ready for how to see Seoul in just one day.
