Best trips to take with your girlfriends

I’m not sure when it happened but at some point over the last five years my four best friends and I all ended up in different states. It is the natural progression of growing up, moving for a job or a husband or schooling or just because, but it’s almost impossible to stay together. But that doesn’t mean you’re really apart, it just gives you an even better excuse to buy a plane ticket and plan an epic girls weekend, which my friends and I have gotten very good at.

Our number one city to go to is New York City. There is always something new to do in the Big Apple and there is literally something for everyone. From shopping to theaters to drinking in SOHO or sitting underneath the lights of Time’s Square you can never get bored in Manhattan. On our last girls adventure to Manhattan, my friend Stephanie and I ended up at an underground pool bar where I’m pretty sure I stole a bottle of wine and ordered the biggest box of pizza they offer Artichoke Pizza, which if you have ever been there you know is a huge mistake for two people and if you haven’t been there one slice is the size of your face— needless to say we had pizza in our room the entire weekend.

Another one of our favorite places is L.A. Now, I’m not sure if it’s cheating because one of our crew lives there but its always an incredible time. She says its fun to be a tourist in your own city and we always try and do something the three of us have never done. The great thing about L.A. is it is huge and there are alway new and happening restaurants to visit. On our last trip we visited the Broad Museum and the new infinity light installation they had, went thrifting, and ate and one of the most granola places ever, they made you order your food in the “I am” instead of “I will have” it was incredibly strange but so delicious.

Of course Nashville is on my list. What is a list for the girls without Nashville on it? You can visit this city and do the same thing every time and still have an incredible time. We absolutely love Broadway and hopping from Honky Tonk to Honky Tonk ending our nights with as many Daddy Dogs as we can carry to Santa’s Pub, a double wide trailer that only serves PBR and has karaoke. Should I go on or are you already booking your ticket? If Santa’s pub isn’t your thing there are so many classy restaurants and swanky bars or you to try. But don’t you dare leave without visiting Willies Honky Tonk World just next to Tootsies. You’ll thank me later.

Another great city is Chicago, it is infinitely cheaper than New York City and L.A. and is just as fun. The city knows how to do holidays, throwing huge block parties in the middle of the city right on the river. For example, they dye the river green for St. Patrick’s day and its a ridiculous party. The public transportation system is great if you don’t want to walk everywhere, but walking from one place to the next is just as easy. You have your favorite go-to chains or you can experience the real Chicago and go to one of the thousands of local restaurants and bars. The people are so incredibly friendly you’re bound to make new friends along the way and despite what you hear, Chicago is incredibly safe. Just like any big city you and your girls have to be smart but I promise you’ll have a great time.

This one might not be the easiest for everyone but if you and your best friend get to Maui you guys will have the time of your lives. Being in actual paradise is truly wonderful but getting to sip frozen drinks with too much sugar by the beach while you watch cute surfing instructors give lessons with your best friend is another level. We drove up to Hana where we went to the black sand beaches, rented the cutest airbnb and jumped off cliffs into the crystal blue water. My friend Kaitlin had lived there for four years and new all the hot spots to go and we have a killer guide to the island you have to check out when planning your next trip. I recommend staying at any one of the Coconut Condo rentals, they are all centrally located and instagrammable. Kaitlin and I drove all around Maui eating at amazing restaurants, surfing (she is a lot better than I am) laughing and enjoying the Hawaiian sun.

My girls and I love our weekend getaways. We are starting to try and plan one every year so we can all get together without work getting in the way. It can be so hard to catch up over the phone or visit each other, coordinating schedules is a real bitch sometimes. But pick a weekend you are all free and take off with just your girls.
