Hotel Indigo, Downtown Brooklyn, NY

I have been to New York countless times. From the age of 5 my mom was taking us on family vacations and girls trips to the city, sparking an early flame for this amazing city. So it comes as a surprise that I never have actually spent much time in Brooklyn.

Ever since the show Girls came out on HBO, all I have been hearing about is Brooklyn. I was even watching The Secret Life of Pets and they mention the amazing Brooklyn comeback. So for this trip I headed to this up-and-coming borough.

I was invited by the amazing Hotel Indigo in Downtown Brooklyn. If you all remember my time in Chicago, you know I love this hotel. The IGH Hotels are some of my favorite stays, always a prime location and the most amazing staff. They are definitely my favorite homes away from my little cottage.

We arrived in Newark airport at 9am—yes we left at the butt crack of dawn but we needed all the time we could get. The hotel manager showed us to our room.

Hotel Indigo is all about the art of narrow rooms, but this doesn’t mean you don’t have space, its actually quite the opposite. You can spread out all you want. With high ceilings, the white leather headboard stands at least 8 feet tall, making you feel like a princess. We had two plush queen beds to snuggle up in and a perfect view of the bustling downtown Brooklyn.

Now, we are girls, we have a lot of crap, and we had TWO closets! I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. I can’t remember the last time I was able to hang up ALL of my clothes.

Again, we are girls, we have a lot of crap, and a lot of makeup, so the fact that I could hold a small dance party in our bathroom, even with its massive shower was amazing. At one point we had three girls getting ready in there at once.

We didn’t have any time for napping although those beds were incredibly inviting. We needed to get to sightseeing.

We were about a mile away from the Brooklyn Bridge and about 3 miles away from the famous Bedford Ave. We hopped in an Uber and headed towards Bedford for the famous Rainbow Bagel at The Bagel Shop. Then, we crossed off a major bucket list item for me: walked the entire Brooklyn Bridge.

We asked our Uber driver to take us to the Brooklyn Bridge at about 8am. He was quite confused. See, if you type “Brooklyn Bridge” into the Uber search it puts you in the middle of 4 lane traffic in the middle of the bridge. So it took us a minute to figure out exactly where we wanted to go. We ended up getting dropped off on the Manhattan side and walked into Brooklyn.

Don’t worry, after walking all 5,989 feet in heels (because you know, for the pictures) we were delighted to find ourselves at Bluestone Cafe with so many different kinds of toasts, and my personal favorite, avocado toast, and mimosas! We rested our feet before heading back out.

Every day was a new adventure. From Bedford, to the DUMBO, to the Navy Yard, to Brooklyn Heights — we saw it all. And after long days of exploring we came home to our quiet little street in the heart of downtown Brooklyn to the Hotel Indigo where we slept like babies.

The cloud-like pillows made it almost impossible to keep your eyes open for more than a second after your head hit the pillow and wrapping up in the fluffy comforter made you forget it was snowing outside. And, of course, being able to catch up on the Kardashians on a flat screen TV while drifting off is always an added bonus.

I always enjoy my stays with Hotel Indigo and I cannot wait to return. If you are planning a trip to Brooklyn any time soon, this is definitely the hotel you want to be in.
