The Halloween Food Crawl

We spent Halloween in Nashville. No, we didn’t hit up the honkey tonks on Broadway but we did eat our body weight in Hot Chicken, cronuts, tacos, and pimento cheese balls. Instead of telling you about the best creepy costume I saw passing out candy in Brentwood, I think I will tell you about my favorite Nashville eateries.

Proper Bagel

We ate here last time but it definitely still needs an honorable mention. Create your own bagel with some crazy, never before heard of cream cheese and specialty coffee with an amazing atmosphere makes this place one of my favorite breakfast spots. You don’t have to just have bagel and cream cheese, you can indulge in one of their amazing breakfast bagel sandwiches, toasts, or sweets. If you find yourself in Nashville, please stop by this place, trust me, you won’t regret it.

Hattie B’s Nashville Hot Chicken

Ok, so my guide is filled with amazing restaurants and this is one of them. Hattie B’s is famous for its Nashville Hot Chicken and unfortunately, last year, we didn’t have time to make it here. So naturally, this was our first dinner spot.

We went to the second location in West Nashville so we would definitely have a seat— the first location downtown is almost always packed with a line out the door. I was a little afraid at first but I ordered my chicken sandwich medium with a side of pimento mac n’ cheese. I don’t really know if I have to explain how delicious this was because I feel like pimento mac n’ cheese speaks for itself, and although my mouth was on fire, the coleslaw and pickle (I usually hate pickles) made for the perfect combination.

Mas Tacos

Two words: Fried. Avocado.

This was recommended to us by a shop owner in East Nashville Fatherland District that we couldn’t make it to last year. I will now go back every time I go to Nashville. Pulled pork, grilled chicken, and a fried avocado taco and sweet plantains, yum. I think I would eat tacos for the rest of my life if I could always have a fried avocado one. The quaint little restaurant looks a lot like an old house, you order at the window then make your way to the bar where you can order a Black Margarita, which is made with activated charcoal. I wouldn’t have more than 2 because they are a little on the strong side.

Five Daughters Baker

Have you ever had a croissant? Ok, have you ever had a doughnut? Have you ever had a cronut? If you answered no to the last question get in your car right now and drive to Nashville. A hundred layers of flaky deliciousness with sweet icing drizzled on top and warmed to perfection, this truly is a heavenly creation. We loved it so much we went to their second location in the Franklin Factory in Franklin, Tennessee the next day.

Urban Cowboy Public House

This new B&B opened up this year and also opened up a public house next door. Fancy craft cocktails with sprigs of rosemary and cucumber infused gin drinks with black pepper fill up the menu. Their food menu is just as strange but be sure to order something even if you don’t know what it is.  It will be delicious. Their outdoor patio is decorated with western decor and two fireplaces to keep you warm during the winter.

Grey’s on Main

Another great restaurant on our guide that we didn’t have the chance to go to last year. If you have already been here, they have just re-vamped their menu and they have fried pimento cheese balls. If you can’t tell, I’m a sucker for pimento cheese anything. In addition to little golden balls of goodness, they have bacon wrapped dates, sandwiches, fried green tomatoes, and ridiculous desserts. We split the Farmers Daughter which was kinda like a southern style Eggs Benedict—a thin slice of sourdough bread, toasted, topped with cheddar cheese, bacon, ham, and a fried egg drenched in hollandaise sauce. Yeah, it was awesome.

Nashville is filled with places to eat and drink. Every corner has some amazing restaurant or bar, so if you find one that isn’t on my list, send it to me so I can check it out next time I am in town!
